ARTIST FEATURE: HOBO HUSBAND

3 QUESTIONS WITH

NORTH CAROLINA’S HOBO HUSBAND

For those who don’t know—who are you and where do you come from?

I’m Hobo, born and raised in NC. I’ve been living in Charlotte since 2019(although I did live here for a couple of years in 2014-2016). That’s when I met my wife.

What attracted you to murals, and how old were you when you started painting?

I’ve been drawing portraits with graphite since I was a kid. I didn’t have many friends growing up so I stuck to my sketchbook and found comfort in that. I think it was 2015 I started to see the mural world blowing up and people painting realistic portraits on buildings and I was like “oh damn, people can do this?” I started immersing myself in the street art/graff culture and finally picked up a can in 2019.

Where do you want to see graffiti/street art go in the next 10–20 years?

I want to see it move the way it has organically over the years. People inspire people/pick up on each others styles/evolve those styles. I just don’t want to see AI take over the arts. Hopefully the two genres move into a more 3d structural direction.. to last millennia like the ancients.
